Steel Processing and Fabrication Services
Very little steel goes straight from the rack into the wall. Most beams need cutting, usually need holes, often need plates welded on, and sometimes need a finish before anybody lifts them into place.
Buying the beam is the straightforward part of the order. Cutting it to the length on the drawing, putting the connection holes where the engineer wants them, welding on cleats or end plates, and getting a coating on it if the steel is going to be seen or is going anywhere near weather, all of that has to happen somewhere. Doing it on site is slower and messier, and it is a good deal harder to get right in a room that has already been plastered.
We supply the full range of structural sections. The processing is arranged on the same order, so you are not chasing a separate fabricator for the parts of the job that make the beam usable, and the finished steel is delivered direct to site.
Get this priced with your steel
Send us your engineer’s drawings and we’ll price the steel and the processing together — one order, one delivery, one point of contact.
Steel Beams Cut to Size
Steel is rolled in long standard lengths. Almost nobody needs one of those, so we supply beams cut to the lengths on your drawing.
Steel Beam Drilling, Notching and Holes
Bolt holes for the connections, service holes through the web, notches to clear existing structure. All of it set out from the engineer’s details before the beam leaves for site.
Welded Cleats, End Plates and Connections
Cleats, end plates and base plates welded on before the steel is delivered, so the frame goes together on site instead of being made there.
Steel Beam Painting, Priming and Intumescent Coating
Primer, topcoats and intumescent fire protection, applied before the beam is delivered instead of around it once it is installed.
Galvanised Steel Beams
Hot-dip galvanising for steel that is going outside, staying exposed, or living somewhere damp. Arranged with the beam and delivered ready to install.
If you are not sure what processing your job needs, send us the engineer’s drawings. We will work out what has to happen to the steel before it arrives and price the whole lot together. If you are still working out what the job needs at all, steel beams by project type covers loft conversions, load-bearing wall removal, extensions, chimney breasts and goal post frames, covering what the steel is doing in each case and the sizes commonly specified.
Ready for a price?
Send your drawings or a cutting list and we’ll come back with quantities and a price, steel and processing together. Large and small orders both welcome.
We supply structural steel across London, the South and the Midlands, delivered direct to site. Information on this page is general guidance; specifications for your project must come from your structural engineer.
