Steel Plate and Bar Suppliers in Surrey
Mild steel plate, flat bar and round bar, cut to size and delivered across Surrey. On the basement and underpinning work common here, the plate is often the part carrying the whole load path into the ground.

What it is used for
Basement work is what distinguishes Surrey from its neighbours. Underpinning and basement extensions through Esher, Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames depend on needle beams and the plates that spread their load into the ground, and on those jobs the plate is frequently the single most heavily worked component on the drawing. Above ground, the large domestic extensions common across Guildford and Reigate need base plates under goal post columns and cap plates where beams meet. Packing plates matter more here than anywhere: on houses of this age the existing structure is very often not where the survey put it.
The thing worth getting right
Base plates are where this matters most on domestic work. The plate spreads a column’s entire load into the foundation below, and its size and thickness come from the engineer’s calculations instead of by eye. Holding-down bolt positions have to be agreed before concrete is poured, which is the single most common thing to go wrong on a small steel frame.
Delivery across Surrey
We deliver direct to site across Surrey, including Farnham, Epsom, Redhill, Guildford, Dorking, Woking, Godalming, Walton-on-Thames, Ewell, Esher, Camberley, Leatherhead, Weybridge, Egham, Staines and Reigate. Surrey work skews domestic and high-value: basements, large extensions and remodelling of substantial houses, much of it on tight sites.
Surrey is the most access-constrained of the three. The commuter belt between Esher, Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames is dense, heavily parked, and full of properties set back behind narrow approaches, and conservation-area restrictions are common around Guildford, Godalming and Dorking. Long lengths and mechanical offload need planning here more often than not.
HIAB lorry crane offload is available on request. If the approach is tight, tell us at quote stage rather than on the day and we will plan the delivery around it.

Common questions
Can you cut plate to size?
Yes. Plate is cut to the dimensions you supply, so it arrives ready to use instead of as a standard sheet needing cutting on site.
What is the difference between flat bar and plate?
Length against area. Flat bar is a long narrow section sold by the metre, used for straps, ties and brackets. Plate is a flat area cut to a shape, used for base plates, gussets and spreading load.
Do you supply chequer plate?
Yes, from 3mm to 12.5mm, for access covers, walkways and step treads. It is not a structural product and should not be specified as one.
Can plate be drilled and welded before delivery?
Yes. Holes for holding-down bolts and welded assemblies are both routine. Send the fabrication details with your enquiry and we will price it together with the steel.
Ready for a price?
Send your drawings or a cutting list and we will come back with quantities and a price. Large and small orders both welcome.
